This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.

Although not quite at the same level as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the beginning of a current administration.

“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”

This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The animal, contributed by a first responder, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six-seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.

A New Life

Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.

“It embodies the essence of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Every time, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”

Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
