American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn states she will be "in an excellent position" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, on the back of claiming a top-three finish for the fourth instance in her last five World Cup competitions. The 41-year-old, who last week set a record by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, took the bronze position in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This represented her 142nd career World Cup podium finish. Strong Return in Val d'Isere Competing at the French Alps resort for the first occasion in almost a decade, Vonn crossed the line in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was 0.36 seconds behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking second place. "I didn't quite have the right line on the first jump," the skier commented. "From that point on, I skied well. I'm satisfied with my performance today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was overly cautious." This result was her second podium at Val d'Isere during the event, having also finished third in the downhill on Saturday. An Incredible Return from Retirement Vonn ended her career in early 2019 as a result of ongoing knee problems. However, she staged a competitive comeback in late 2024 following a significant orthopedic procedure. With 47 days remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are set to run from 6-22 February, Vonn's form are timely. She already possesses an Olympic gold and two bronze medals from previous Games and is firmly on track to compete for the United States at the 2026 Games. "When we get to Cortina, I will be in a good place," the athlete confirmed. Chasing More Titles In addition to her Games aspirations, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four overall crystal globes she has accumulated over a professional journey spanning two decades. She currently holds a 69-point lead at the summit of the downhill World Cup rankings and is ranked fifth in the overall super-G standings. This current World Cup circuit includes a nine more events taking place before the circuit finale in Norway on 21 March 2026.
