The English Team to Start UEFA Euro 2028 Quest at City’s Home Ground

England’s men’s team will initiate their Euro 2028 journey at the Manchester City’s stadium, on the condition that they achieve the relatively straightforward passage for a competition hosted across the majority of the UK and the Irish Republic.

The Etihad Stadium has not welcomed an English men’s match since the spring of 2016, when the visitors were overcome 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is expected to welcome the national team for their opening fixture on Saturday 10 June 2028.

The team are scheduled to play their last two group stage games at the national stadium, but, if they top Group B, their round of 16 match would take place at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Placing second would mean commencing the knockouts at Everton’s ground.

Competition Opening and Demonstration

The event was inaugurated at an event in Piccadilly Circus on Wednesday evening. Key representatives from the tournament organizers and the organizing bodies were barracked as they arrived the site by approximately 50 pro-Palestine demonstrators, who called for Israel to be removed from international football because of the Gaza crisis.

Banners were raised with slogans stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters called out: “Kick Israel out.”

Tournament Fixture List

The opening game of Euro 2028 will be staged at the Principality Stadium in the Welsh capital, on Friday 9 June, a match that will feature the Dragons if they secure a place.

Wembley will host the two semi-final matches and the championship match, which will be staged on July 9, 2028 with a commencement at 5pm.

It is anticipated that an earlier kick-off, which will also be implemented for Champions League finals from the upcoming season, will cater to families and help reach a wider spectrum of viewers.

Host Nations

The Republic of Ireland are due to play their opening match at the Dublin stadium and the Scottish team would do the same at the national stadium of Scotland.

The national sides of all four hosts will take part in the qualification process; two automatic spots will be set aside for any that do not reach Euro 2028 through that route.

Locations and Playoffs

Aston Villa’s stadium and The North London arena round out the event’s nine venues. Each one will hold at least one playoff fixture, with the last eight held at each country’s national stadium.

The qualification draw will be held in Belfast, which was excluded as a tournament location last year when it emerged the proposed venue could not be redeveloped in time, on 6 December 2026.

Official Statement

“This will be a competition for the supporters and a festival of everything we love about the football – its emotion and capacity to unite individuals.”

Over 3 million tickets, a all-time high for a men’s European Championship, are anticipated to be offered to fans.
