R360 Competition Recruits Subject to 10-Year Suspension from NRL

The athlete gained 20 test matches for the Kiwis before transferring loyalty to Samoa.

The NRL's administration has stated that players who enter the “breakaway” R360 will be prohibited for a decade.

The proposed competition, scheduled to begin in late 2026, is seeking to lure players from union and league with substantial agreements and a condensed playing schedule.

Leading NRL athletes have reportedly been approached by the new league, which will feature six to eight men's sides and women's teams based in major cities worldwide.

Representing Samoa Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, who plays for New Zealand Warriors in the NRL, has stated he has had negotiations involving R360.

Papenhuyzen, Zac Lomax, Haas and Gray are also reported to be weighing up offers from the new competition.

Eight major union teams, among them Australia, earlier declared a ban on athletes signing with R360 playing test matches.

“We heard our clubs and we've acted decisively,” stated ARLC chief Peter V'Landys.

“Sadly, there will continually be entities that attempt to hijack our game for potential financial gain.

“They don't invest in talent pipelines or the growth of players. They merely capitalize on the hard work of other organizations, putting players at risk of monetary damage while benefiting financially.

“Essentially, they are, imitating the sport.”

The organization is co-founded by ex-England star Tindall and supported by commercial backers.

Following the possible rugby union prohibitions were declared last week, it said: “We seek to cooperate collaboratively as part of the global rugby calendar.

“The event is structured with tailored timetables for men's and women's teams and we will permit participants for international matches, as included in their contracts.”

The breakaway group will seek approval for its initiatives from rugby union's governing body, the sport's regulatory group, at its official gathering next year.
