Canada's Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Meeting Versus defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer previously helped the Houston Astros winning the championship in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their maiden championship series after the 1993 season by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the seventh game seven of the American League Championship Series.

Behind 3-1, the star outfielder delivered a three-run blast in the seventh, leading the only Canadian franchise in MLB to a 4-3 series triumph in the best-of-seven series. Awaiting them are the Dodgers, the team that is the defending champions, in the upcoming championship.

"I'm just so happy for our team, Toronto, Canada," said Springer, a star of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 title. "This is such an unbelievable moment."

George Springer has now connected for 23 total playoff homers, ranking him third in history after Manny Ramirez (29) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"There's probably not another person anywhere that I want up in that situation other than him with his playoff prowess," said Schneider.

Seattle's team, after leading the series two games to none and three games to two, continue to be the only MLB franchise yet to make an appearance in a World Series.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson stated "there's no question that it's going to sting" in the wake of his club's elimination at Rogers Centre, but praised their work throughout the year.

"They're an exceptional squad. Unfortunately that we had to come out on the wrong side of this one," he added.

The Blue Jays secured the World Series on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Dodgers in the first game on the upcoming Friday.
