Bottling up the league's best rushing attack was also key, with Cook and company recording just eighty-six yards, their lowest of the year and slightly more than half their 161.5 yard season average

Then there were the three crucial ball losses, and the two from Allen in particular. An interception in the end zone resulting in a nine-minute drive yielded no points, and his fourth-quarter dropped ball that Miami turned into a touchdown just later

It was classic 'previous Bills teams' as they hurt themselves in the foot, falling into a deficit on defensive side and Allen attempting to do too much to rescue his squad from the situation - not the composed, controlled, balanced Buffalo team we've seen this season

Miami have served up a varied performances this season so the jury's out on if this is the start of a trend, but for the Bills they'll need an instant response in a difficult matchup against the Buccaneers next week as the Patriots are sneaking into a nice lead at the top of the American Football Conference East

Speaking of the Patriots, they're among three different eight and two teams in the NFL, all American Football Conference sides, but are they the top team?

One could find flaws in the Patriots, Denver and the Colts actually for feasting on the weaker opponents, with only five of their combined twenty-four victories achieved against teams with a winning record - and one example was the Indianapolis beating the Broncos

While you can debate who 'the best' is technically, the Pats should be favourites to end with the top record thanks to their remaining opponents - which features just one game against a successful opponent, albeit a huge one against the Bills

Visiting the Ravens is also tough, but Denver have it even tougher in the AFC West division with the Kansas City to play twice, the Los Angeles Chargers (who might also compete for first place but encounter the identical challenge) and also the Green Bay on the fixture list

The Indianapolis also play the Chiefs, and have the Seahawks, San Francisco and two matchups with the five and four Jaguars to face. There's a long way to go but the door is open for a shock number one position in the AFC

Coming Up - Rams & Seahawks Set for Next Week Showdown

Two teams with solid claims to be better than all of the three 8-2 sides are National Football Conference West rivals the Seattle and Rams, who both put up 40 burgers to go to seven and two before next week's Hollywood blockbuster game between the pair in Los Angeles

Both have secured four victories in a row, have quarterbacks in Matthew Stafford and Sam Darnold playing at an high standard (although Sam Darnold had ball security problems on game day) with top receivers, and defenses giving up under 20 points a game

Both could realistically be undefeated as well - particularly the Los Angeles as their pair of losses came in extra time against the San Francisco and then that painful defeat in Philly when they had a game-winning field goal with the final play blocked and run back by the Eagles for a score

The Seahawks were also defeated to San Francisco, with a last-minute score in the opening week, before falling to the last kick of the contest against the Buccaneers - so they are genuinely two of the best sides in the NFL

The upcoming game on Sunday could be the most exciting of the season to date
