One of the original creators behind the well-known frozen dessert company Ben and Jerry's has stated that parent company Unilever blocked the launch of a new pro-Palestinian frozen dessert product.

The entrepreneur, who co-founded the company with Jerry Greenfield, announced that he will personally create the controversial flavor as part of an individual series showcasing causes the company has been barred from speaking out about.

Longstanding Dispute Involving Creators and Corporate Owner

The recent announcement escalates the continuing conflict among the world-famous dessert company with its corporate parent, the UK-based consumer goods corporation that has owned Ben & Jerry's for over two decades.

The co-founders maintain how Unilever along with its ice cream arm the Magnum brand improperly prevented their company against "fulfilling its ethical commitments".

The Fruit Sorbet becoming a Symbol for Support

Mr. Cohen revealed through an Instagram video that he's developing an innovative watermelon-flavored sorbet, asking for public suggestions for naming options and additional components.

“I'm doing what they couldn't,” the founder commented from his kitchen. “I'm making a watermelon-flavored frozen dessert that advocates for permanent peace in Palestine while demanding addressing the harm that occurred in the region.”

The watermelon has become an emblem of support for Palestinians due to its coloration, that closely resemble the colors in the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Previous Activism plus Recent Developments

Several years ago, the ice cream company refused to sell its products in territories under Israeli control, resulting in Unilever transferring the Israeli operation over to a local licensee, thereby permitting ongoing distribution within disputed territories.

This upcoming dessert series is being created through Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the socially conscious dessert company that was first created several years back to support former US presidential candidate Senator Sanders with the product "Bernie's Return".

Management Shifts plus Future Plans

The founder indicated that he will create other frozen dessert varieties that address concerns that the company was prevented from speaking about openly due to corporate restrictions.

This development comes after co-founder Mr. Greenfield stepped down from the company recently, after decades of involvement, mentioning worries regarding how its independence was undermined after Unilever's decision to restrict its social activism.

Previously, Mr. Cohen stated how “My partner has strong compassion and this conflict with Unilever was deeply distressing him."

“My conscience leads me to continue to work within the organization to advocate for its independence so that it can achieve its ethical purpose, the principles that it was founded on while upholding for over 40 years," he explained to journalists.
